Tractor Repair: Ford 1910 ..... 2 Stage Clutch, clutch pressure plate, shifting gears

Question
Hi.... I have no problem with a tractor..So I want be asking how to repair,or whats wrong with it....
However My knowledge of Farm Tractors is very limited,I want to ask you about this tractor, and the terminology I've seen used....
What is meant by "2 stage clutch" ....????
I'm looking at the small compact Ford 1910,and am probably going to purchase this model...
I've seen the term 2 stage clutch, mentioned with this model.
Is this a part of the function of the clutch,as to it having to different stages of use??
Or does this clutch engage and work as any clutch would, say on an automobile??
I'm asking in case it takes some kinda special knowledge as to operating this tractor, because of the 2 stage clutch...
Hey....I'm sorry if this sounds silly.... Thanks

Answer
  Hello,

Don't worry, it's not a silly question.  A 2 stage clutch means it has the main clutch and the PTO clutch all together in one unit.  You push the pedal part way down to disengage the main clutch for shifting gears or stopping the tractor, and if you push harder, the pedal will go all the way down and also disengage the PTO clutch.  It's a good design because it gives you a live PTO, meaning you can keep the PTO turning while stopping the tractor.  Also, both clutches can be repaired by removing one clutch pressure plate assembly, so it only has to be disassembled in one place, making it easier and cheaper if it needs repair.  A 1910 is a good machine.
If you buy it and it doesn't come with an operator's manual, I would highly recommend getting one.  It will give you much valuable info.

                  Good luck,
