Hi Jesse.
Ok well, you do not say if the engine is actually running now and you just would like to check it.
Or you have rebuilt it yours self and got to the stage of timing it as the last stage of the rebuild, I will assume this >
TIMING the injector pump: -
All 4st diesels are built much the same way with the flywheel at one end and the timing gears at the front under a cast metal cover.
With this cover removed you will be able to see the timing gears all nice and clean.
Starting at the bottom the small gear on the end of the crankshaft will have a black dot marked on one tooth. All subsequently gears will have other dots on each these will correspond to each other until you get to the gear on the end of the injector pump shaft turn this until it lines up with its nieghbour. It’s a good idea to have the handbook to hand as this will confirm all the dots etc. If you cannot see one set of dots or marks then the gear is on the wrong way round. And the mark is hiding on the other side!
