Tractor Repair: Lawn Tractor electrical problem, fuse holder, petroleum jelly

Question
I have a Weedeater 12.5 HP 5 Speed Lawn Tractor. It has been working fine, but I just tried it and it won't turn over. It is dead - no clicks - nothing. I tried to charge the battery - nothing. I replaced the battery - nothing. I know the more detailed electrical work will probably have to be done by someone else, but could this be just a faulty fuse or something else simple to replace?

Thanks!
Susan

Answer
Hi Susan
Well it might be ! how long has the mower been standing --over winter ?
Go back to the basics.---
Do you have fuel in the tank--is it switched on ?
is the battery connected round the right way    - etc.
It might be that the terminals are dirty --remove connecters -_ first then   wire brush both the posts and the clamps . apply some petroleum jelly before re connecting terminals.
also check the other ends of the leads for cleanliness!
Have ago with the WD40 don't drown it spray all the electrical parts including the ign switch front and back.
As you say check the fuses and replace as required .
WD40 the fuse holder inside as well !!!!

The reason for this is to try and over come poor connections
its great for this .
Let me know how you get on.
THE 2 WIRES FROM THE BATTERY ARE PROBABLY RED AND BLACK BE CAREFUL YOU DO NOT SHORT OUT THE TERMINALS ( MAKE FAULTY CONNECTIONS KEEP ALL WIRES  WELL APART FROM EACH OTHER AND YOU WILL BE OK ) MAKE SURE THE IGN SWITCH IS OFF WHEN RE CONNECTING THE BATTERY.( KEY OUT)
