Tractor Repair: Fuel system, starter fluid, pipe connections

I had same problem Brad has. But in my case the tractor was running and just stopped. I changed fuel filter, but it still will not start. I think it some how has got air in the line. Can this happen while its running? I know it has to be a fuel delivery problem, because I sprayed starter fluid in the air intake and it started for a few seconds. Thisis on a Massey Fergussion model 283 brazilian.

Yes its easy to get air in the fuel system with a diesel. undoing any of the pipe connections can let in air, particularly replacing the filter .
Avoid using any start fluid if you can!!! You will also have to bleed the pipes as previously described.
