Tractor Repair: MH 33 wont start, plug cap, blue spark

Question
gas model 33,turns but won't fire at all.Gas seems to reach cylinders but no fire.
What should I check first, and what steps should I take to go about that.
Some detail on where to look and how to remove parts would be appreciated: I'm not a mechanic,I'm new at this
Thanks

Answer
Hi Blackstr
Has the electrics been serviced recently and what type of spark system does this machine have ,because of its age i assume it will have points and a coil etc. you will have check all the connections they should clean and dry.

CHECKING THE POINTS)--after removing the distributor cap--  the plastic cape were all the plug leads go to!
check the points gap-- with all the spark plugs out turn the engine slowly  and watch for the gap in the system to open and close  clean and regap if necessary.
this is were you manual will be useful.

First check for a spark by removing all plugs check that they are clean and gapped usualy about 32 thou.
put one plug up against the block and with the plug lead on top turn engine over and check for a spark at the plug points ,you should not get a shock if you hold the plastic/rubber plug cap. check each plug in turn for a good health blue spark.

Usualy the point deteriote over a period of time and this is the most likely cause of the problem .
reassemble every thing and try a start in the normal way. try without using the choke.
--to avoid too much gas getting into the engine .
Let me know how this works.
