Triumph Repair: Ignition switch binds, key cylinder, odd problem

Question
1971 TR-6.  Odd problem.  The ignition switch (just the switch itself) works & rotates normally.  The key cylinder works & rotates normally (when switch is removed).  When mated, it gets stiff at "on" and essentially will-not-turn to "start".  I broke one key off and then to my surprise found that another key did not exhibit this problem -- until recently.  I have had no luck pressing u/d/l/r on the switch.  Nor have I gotten the key cylinder to bind by pressing u/d/l/r on the flatted shaft.  Have you ever heard of or seen this?

Answer
Hi Joe,

Have you wiggled the steering wheel when turning the ignition switch? Many times the column lock assembly will make it difficult to turn the ignition switch.

Another test is to loosen the column lock assembly but don't remove it, then try operating the ignition switch just to see if a problem is in the mounting of the column lock assembly.
