Triumph Repair: 1972 triumph spitfire brake booster, differential pressure switch, triumph spitfire

Question
Hi Howard, I have a 1972 triumph spitfire and had a leak of break-fluid from the pressure warning switch on the brake booster (dual line breaking). I broke off this plastic switch while attempting repairs. What is the function of this booster and the warning switch ? Is it OK to plug off the booster where the switch attached ?.

Answer
Hi Wayne,
We need to first get some terminology clarified. I don't think a 72 Spitfire had a brake booster. And the switch is a "differential pressure switch" not a pressure switch. The valve is called a "P.D.W.A. Valve"

The differential warning valve just operates the plastic switch when there is more pressure in one side than the other. There is not suppose to be any fluid at the switch. The valve is nothing but a small rod that extends into both brake circuits with small "O" rings on each end to prevent leakage into the center where the rod is smaller and in contact with the electric switch. You can purchase a kit to reseal the unit and you can also purchase a new switch.

Most of the on-line Spitfire parts suppliers on the Internet should have the repair kit.

You need to take a picture and include it in a response so I can see this "booster" you are talking about.
