Triumph Repair: 73 Spitfire clutch engaging, clutch release, cylinder problem

Question
The clutch seems to work well all the time in disengaging and changing gears..and for the 1st take off...but after arrival at the 1st stop, the next release of the clutch does not at first engage...takes a poping the clutch to engage and for the remainer of the drive...half of the time  you take your foot completely off the clutch and you slowly start in 1st... and works ok as you shift into the other gears....the other half of the time you release the clutch completely and you do not move until you pop the clutch....any ideals?  Tks

Answer
Hi Phil,
You may have to put the car on a lift and operate the car a little to duplicate the fault and when the clutch won't engage open the bleeder on the slave cylinder to see if that makes it engage. If it does then it is a master cylinder problem. If that don't make it engage you need to remove the slave cylinder and check to see if you have a stuck piston in the slave cylinder. If that piston is free then it is inside on the clutch release bearing slider which is sticking on the tube mounted in the front of the transmission.
