Triumph Repair: tr4, clutch master cylinder, clutch slave

Question
I have a tr4 - 1963, supposedly witha tr 6 overdrive installed. I have had it 15 years. Always driven fine, with or without overdrive engaged.
Just sold on ebay. Went to move it and wouldnt go in gear. Clutch slave is working when I drpress clutch. Can shift all gear paters when turned off and engine not runnning. Can put in gear and start and car moves. Is it clutch - what tests do I need to do re overdrive

Answer
Hi Patrick,
Yes, it sounds like a clutch problem. Most likely a hydraulic problem. First check the fluid in the clutch master cylinder and add fluid if necessary. (DOT 4 fluid) If the fluid was low after adding fluid make long slow strokes of the clutch pedal. Be slow pushing down and slow letting up. Then recheck by putting it in gear and starting it to see if it creeps. If no amount of pumping solves the problem you may have to rebuild or replace the master cylinder and I would do the slave cylinder at the same time even if it is not leaking fluid.
