Triumph Repair: 1964 Triumph Spitfire, brown wires, tracer wire

Question
I came into posession of a spitfire where the ingition switch was badly damaged and I have no clue about where all the differenect coloured wires are supposed to plug into thd switch. Can you offer any advise ?  thank you

Answer
Hi Tony, I don't have anything that tells me where to plug the three wires into but you only have four options on the switch so you can check continuity between each pin on the switch and write down which pin connects to which other pins in the off , on and start positions. Then you should be able to figure out which wire goes where. You should have a double or two brown wires which are power wires. The two or a double white wires are for the ignition and regulator and should have connection to the brown wires when in the first and second key position.
The single white with a red tracer wire is the starter and should only be connected to the brown wires when in the start key position.
