Triumph Repair: gt6 oil pressure, pressure relief valve, filter connection

Question
GT6 Mk3 No oil pressure showing on gauge or oil light switch port.90 psi at tickover at oil filter connection to cooler ,would this indicate a faulty pressure relief valve or the big end/mainbearings need to be renewed.the fault is intermitten

Thanks

Answer
If the oil pressure reading is intermittent, (sometimes zero, sometimes 90) then the gauge is likely at fault.  It could be the oil pressure relief spring, but that's easy to pull and inspect to see its condition.

The first test to verify the condition is get a new gauge or gauge that is known to work, and measure again.

Oil pressure problems are by their nature not "intermittent"; the pressure usually runs as a gradient against time and temperature.  The hotter, the less pressure, so it isn't uncommon on a worn engine to have say 30lbs cold, but when the engine is at temp you have 5lbs.  But an engine that has sometimes 60 lbs, and then all of a sudden zero lbs, is an oddity, in my experience.
