Triumph Repair: Turn Signals, 1977 Spitfire, turn signal switch, electrical gremlins

Question
I have been restoring a '77 Spitfire and am currently working through the electrical gremlins. Your posts have been most helpful, particularly those that discuss a method of checking from the load to the power. It has help to resolve many issues.

However, I am stimmied with the turn signals not working. I have installed a new switch, since old horn button wasn't working. The hazard flasher works, and the relay (three prong) clicks with the flashers but not the turns. The dash indicator light works with the hazards but not the turns. The bulbs all light with hazards and the wires don't seem to be shorting. Funny thing was that the turns worked before but hazards did not! The dash is currently apart, could this be a ground issue? This is a late year 1977 and the wiring is a mix of 77 and 78 to add extra interst. Thanks, JC

Answer
JC,

There should be a light green/brown wire between the hazard switch and the turn signal flasher.  The "signal"from the turn signal switch also goes to the flasher unit on the light green/brown wire.

If the hazards work and light all 4 corners, then it's an issue with the wiring coming from the turn signal switch on the column.  You might try tracing those wires under the column and make sure no connections have come apart in the dash.

Cheers,

Jim
