Triumph Repair: TR6 cant find neutral, drive shaft, shift position

Question
I have a 1971 TR6 with A type OD. I cannot seem to find neutral. With the rear of the car on jack stands, and the car running, I can shift through the gears from 1-4 using the clutch. The problem is the drive shaft and wheels  are spinning whenever the clutch is out (always in gear). When the clutch is pushed in, the drive shaft doesn't spin regardless of what gear shift position I am in. If I have the stick in neutral position, the drive shaft and wheels spin until I put the clutch in. Once I let the clutch out, it will start spinning again so I am never really in neutral.

Answer
Steve, when you shift from 1st to 2nd you have to go through neutral to get there and you can't ever be in two gears at the same time or it would lock up. This means you must have gotten out of 1st to get into 2nd so what you say is impossible.
Only thing to do is remove the gearbox and look inside.
Or just pull the hand brake on and try finding neutral.
