Triumph Repair: 1979 Spitfire vibration in reverse gear, clutch disk, spitfire 1500

Question
I have a 79 Spitfire 1500 that has a strong shudder / vibration when just starting out in reverse gear (and 1st a little bit). Once the car is moving all shifting is perfectly fine, it is just under the load of starting out. Any ideas on what may be causing this problem?

Answer
Hi Mark,
You need to look at the trans mount and look at the "U" joints for signs of free play or rust trails from any of the "U" joints. A glazed clutch disk can also cause this. A glazed clutch will usually be different cold verses hot operation but "U" joints and trans mounts will be there all the time. (usually)
