Triumph Repair: Windshield Removal, windshield removal, windshield frame

Question
Hey Howard. This is Jon White - it was great to see you at JD's open house a few weeks ago.

72 TR6
I want to remove the top dash crash pad and replace it. I have removed the three bolts from the windshield frame. I know there are at least 2 nuts somewhere else. Any ideas?

In case you can't tell, I am finally restoring the cosmetic pieces of the TR. Especially now that we did the SU conversion, it runs greats.....

Answer
Hi Jon,
It was good to see you again. I did a total restoration on a 72 but it has been a while ago so I looked it up in a factory manual and it says to remove the windshield frame completely and to remove the wood dash too. Then there are 5 nuts securing the top pad down and the two demisters must be removed also. I don't remember doing all that but I stripped the car I did so I may have done all that in the process. Isn't that typical of our beloved British cars?
If you have the new dash top pad you may be able to see if it is really necessary to completely remove the windshield or if it is just a small bit of material that fits under the windshield you may be able to just use a box cutter to cut the old one out and just loosen the windshield and dig the old cut off piece out and slide the new one in under and then tighten the windshield down after. However, if you are doing a body restoration and painting you may want the windshield off anyway. It comes off easy with the three bolts you already removed and two more on each side and one nut on the end of each "A" post and slide it up and out.
If you are out my way stop in and see my new shop.
