Triumph Repair: 64 TR6 throwout bearing removal, dowel pin, long shaft


Question
how do you replace? is it a two piece assembly? fork wont travel forward enough to remove. bolt on fork too long to pull out. hits case. have read articles on removing dowel pin located in web of fork. my fork has no dowel pin. please help.

Hi Patrick,
First I need to know what kind of car you have as there is no such thing as a "64 TR-6". If is is a TR-6 this is the procedure for all TR-6s.

The release bearing is pressed on to a slider and the slider must be removed to get the bearing off. To get the slider off you need to first remove the slave cylinder operating rod, then the fork should swing forward and down out of the way to allow the slider to be pulled out. (All TR-6s have the fork mounted on a long shaft the sticks out of both sides of the bell housing) To change the bearing, you need to press the old one off of the slider and press the new one on.
If this is not how yours is, then you don't have a TR-6. The only Triumphs in 64 were the Spitfire, Herald & TR-4. let me know what you have and I can probably help you.
