Triumph Repair: Triumph Spitfire clutch, clutch disc, clutch slave

Question
I have a 1980 Spitfire that the clutch was slipping on. I  replaced the clutch and pressure plate but it is very hard to depress. I replaced the slave cylinder and this didn't fix the problem. When I put the car in gear the clutch will not disengage, is it possible that I put the clutch in backwards. Any light you could shed would be great. Thanks

Answer
Keith,

Yes, having the clutch disc in backwards will make it difficult/impossible to release the clutch as the center hub on some discs will hit the flywheel and bias the clutch offset.

When you put the new clutch in did you clean/lubricated the throwout bearing slider?

The other possibility is the clutch slave is too far out of the trans and is bottoming on the hydraulic travel before disengaging the clutch.

Cheers,

Jim
