Triumph Repair: Triumph TR6, rotor arm, 67 camaro

Question
Hi,

I have a '73 TR6 that has not been started for quit a while. I have gone through the fuel system and changed the oil and filter. Do you know if there is a way to rotate the oil pump to circulate the oil before I attempt to start the engine? A friend has a '67 Camaro and he can remove the distributor and use an electric drill to rotate the oil pump. I was hoping I could do the same.

Thanks,
Bob

Answer
Bob,

You can spin the oil pump by removing the distributor and the distritor drive gear (that the distributor rides on).  The main caution is to mark where the rotor arm was pointing before removing the distributor, maybe even marking on the pedestal the orientation of the distributor drive gear.  It can be very tricky getting the gear back into the proper position as it twists against the cam as it's lowered into the block.

Cheers,

Jim
