UK Car Repair: OPel Astra 160i cranking but not firing, check oil level, low oil pressure

Question
l have an opel astra 160i 1996 model it is cranking but not firing. It just stopped all of a sudden.  I have checked high tension cables to the plugs and they are working well. l checked fuel and it is coming to the injectors. Please help me to identify the problem.

Answer
disconnect and reconnect the battery - leave one lead off for 5 seconds - they are known to need this occasionally in hot weather, always seems to be on hot days - I'm pretty sure the ECU overheats, crashes and needs a reboot.

no joy?
does the oil pressure warning light go out when cranking?
if it doesn't check oil level and quality. low oil pressure can make it refuse to start, also especially in hot weather

still no joy?

start the car with the accelerator held completely floored, release the accelerator as soon as it starts (crank it for 20 seconds max - don't repeat if it doesn't start) - if this works have the diagnostic codes scanned at a garage to find which sensor (water temp sender is usually to blame if it starts like this) has failed.

Still nothing? - cambelt slipped a tooth maybe?

that's all I can think of for now.
