UK Car Repair: Toyota Yaris speedo., 2008 toyota yaris, toyota yaris

Question
QUESTION: Hi Christian. I have a 2008 Toyota Yaris, 1364cc, diesel, 5 speed manual.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change the speedometer from MPH to KPH. I can't find any reference in the handbook or on line.
I know it is something simple like holding a button for more than 2 secs or similar.
Can you help please?

ANSWER: it cant be changed - you have to change the whole speedometer. - I guess this car is an import??

There's no way to change  imperial/metric on cars from outside the uk built after 2006 - What you want is a speedometer from a 07/08 taken from the breakers (we're talking a 2 year old part not a piece of junk), otherwise you can pay Toyota around a £1000 and they {{might}} get it to read in mph...
You want confirmed in writing:

How much it will cost.
What is being done.
How long it will take.

QUESTION: Thank you for a timely response. However, the car is a right hand drive and I bought it in Malta, where I live, and I presume it was originally imported from somewhere.
It did read in KPH before I fiddled with the odometer and menu buttons.
I will take it to my local Toyota dealer here in Malta.
I was hoping for an easy and quick fix as I do not want any more speeding tickets from cameras.

Answer
All the info I read on the car shows its set at the factory and you cant change it on cars built after 2006~
There's nothing in the owners handbook showing how to change it and I cant find any info elsewhere.
Maybe your dealer will manage to change the setting. good luck :)

If it was set at the factory for MPH and you somehow managed to change it you can try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to reset the computer to default settings - if you have a coded radio make sure you have the code before you do this though.
