UK Car Repair: Air con system on audi a3, audi a3, scrubbing brush

On my audi a3 2005 model, when I turn my air con / heating system on it makes a loud sqeaking noise, the noise only seems to last a few minutes but can get very loud and can do it varu=ious times throughout the day if I am driving around.

give a reply to the question   "From under the bonnet?", i thouht that question would result in a  "Yes, it does" or "No, it's inside the car"

Simplest things first... worn belt, then onto compressor pump... but on an audi, you just hope its the belt.
