UK Car Repair: 1973 mg clutch, clutch pedal, clutch release

Question
Follow up question on my brothers mg clutch

You stated you thought there was an adjustment on the clutch pedal , push rod from the clutch master at the end of the clutch pedal, would that be at the floor ?  Also the " clutch release mechanism where the fork pivots ? would that be under the car, or where would I look for it and is there and adjustment on that also ?

You really seen to know what you are talking about on these car, I really thank you for your help,

If there is no adjustments at any of these places will we have to consider putting in a new clutch ?? We did bleed all the air out of the system as far as we know,,,, have a real strong petal to push in, but it let out almost at the floor

Thanks again for your help

Steve

Answer
Yes, the clutch pedal moves a bar into the slave cylinder, this is a push rod.

It should have some adjustment on it, either it screws in and out, or it has a pin that can be removed and located further along the rod to give more travel, a few different methods of fastening were used over the years so you have to have a look in the pedal box, should be pretty self explanatory when you see what you have.
If it;s not send me some pictures of the stuff you cant figure out.

The clutch release mechanism is the part past the slave cylinder, the slave cylinder has its own pushrod, this moves the clutch release fork. the release fork could have come loose, the slave cylinder could have slipped on its mounting if not tightened up properly (depending on the model of slave cylinder) or the pivot joint(s) could be worn.

Gimme some photos and let me see what's going on.

If you cant upload photos to here then you can email me them at diano455@yahoo.co.uk

check this pic out of the clutch pedal pivot joint, this could be the source of the problem,

re-bleed the system too, fill the reservoir to the top, undo the bleed nipple so its really loose and shove the pedal to the floor, tighten the nipple with the pedal held down hard, then release the pedal slowly. next time open the nipple just enough so it weeps and slowly and firmly press the pedal down, tighten the nipple as soon as the pedal hits the floor and then release the pedal really slowly. that's enough to flush the air out, it's a shortish pipe and small pair of cylinders.
