UK Car Repair: clutch, renault clio 1, clutch bearings

Question
QUESTION: hello i have recently bought a renault clio 1.2i 16v 2002, my clutch has just gone on it and its slipping i am going to replace it, do you think it will stop my car from juddering and ride smoother ? also since i am in spain and have a left hand drive will a uk clutch fit this since i want to purchase off the internet because of the price lol. also the engine takes its time to go back to normal rpm inbetween gear changes so it sounds like im clutching it between gears, will that also be due to the worn clutch ? thankyou very much :)

ANSWER: the clutch judders?
EG, at biting point the car is juddering/wobbling?

If that's the case this clutch is misaligned - probably the bad alignment has led to the early wearing out of the clutch, at a guess I say you're at 80-85,000 miles on the second clutch...

New clutch will sort the judder out only if it is aligned properly, and the judder could be caused by bad bearings in the engine/gearbox/clutch, so make sure they are checked out during the clutch replacement too.

The revs... that sounds unrelated - hard to diagnose, does the engine do this when you rev it up in neutral, or only when changing gear?

QUESTION: Thanks for reply :) well it judders inbetween gear changes unless i use clutch smoothly between them, the revs also only at 3500+ rpm between gear changes too, i will deffinately get bearings looked at aswell :) thanks again. Kane

Answer
You mean the engine and gearbox shake, jerking and cluncking when you change gear harshly?
Most noticable changing into 2nd...

Maybe loose engine/gearbox mounts?
Could also be the wishbone rubber bushes, they often go on this sort of car, especially if it has been kicked around a little... though once repaired the car will be fine.

So check transmission/engine mounts are not loose and allowing the engine and transmission to #"rock" back and forth in the engine bay (causing the jerking)

and have the transmision and clutch bearings given the once over when having the clutch changed.

Also the wishbone bushes, put handbrake on tight. in 1st gear bring up the clutch to cause the judder, have someone look at the front wheelas and see if they move forward without the car moving forward when you bring up the clutch, (try to make the wheels JERK forward) if they are loose in this forward backward direction then the wishbone bushes are worn out. (caused by hard gear changes, fast driving on bad roads)
