UK Car Repair: Vauxhall Astra 1.7 DTD flattening battery, vauxhall astra, diesel cars

Question
Hi paul
Thanks for your expert help - not sure if the problem is solved - but on revving the car I get about 13.6 volts out of the generator at 3,500 revs. My local mechanic says this should be enough. What do you think?

Answer
Hi Nick, in my experience, 13,5v is NOT enough to charge a battery. Take a volt meter and measure any car you care to mention and it will be 14.5 or more (1 volt is enough to make a difference. It is also possible that your battery has had it. I also know that diesel cars rake a higher amperage to turn over, ensure you have the correct battery. - let me know how it goes - Paul
