UK Car Repair: fog light hard wire, fog light, fog lights

Question
I recently added after market fog lights to my subaru. I decided to hard wire the power to the lights directly to my battery. There is a lighted switch hooked up to this assembly. My question is, the light on the switch stays on even when the car is off. Is there any way that this will drain my battery?

Answer
Yes it will. But more important is the likelyhood of a serious short in the switch itsself.  This is a high current draw circuit, it is dangerous to have the full power go through the switch, it will likely burn out the contacts and perhaps "weld' them together. It is better to use a relay which can then be operateed by the switch, that way everything will work as it should,  I'm assuming the circuit is fused!
