UK Car Repair: 1973 Corniche, filter elements, clear test

Question
Car has been in storage for last two years and wanted to get it back and going..has 61,000 miles..driving on a hot day and engine shut down and wouldn't restart..got a new battery and mechanic replaced ignition coil..got it back today and it shut down 4 times on the way home, but would restart..mechanic is baffled. I felt loss of power in pedal as I drove..went a total of probably 5 miles in it. Carburetor?

Answer
I sounds like a fuel delivery problem,  I would first check the filter -above the rear axle- if it's clear, test the fuel pump delivery. ps; the original filter elements are hard to get, we usually fit a good in line unit instead, leaving the original filter housing in situ. Also, unless they are fairly new now is the time to replace the fuel hoses back there.
