UK Car Repair: vauxhall vectra 1997, vauxhall vectra, starter motor

whilst driving the car the engine died without any warning. all the electrics come on and dash display also but engine will not start, it won't even turn starter motor. could this be a sensor or imobliser or something any help would be great

A major power loss like this is unusual, it could well be the alarm system.  Have you tried resetting the alarm with the key and then the remote? If so, you need to take it to a known good mechanic. A good thing is, the fault still exists, this should make it easier to locate.
