UK Car Repair: Astra g jerky accel, plugs and sockets, water in the fuel

Question
I have the problem with jerky acceleration on my astra g 1.7 tdi (2003). That means that it loses the power very sharply for breaf moment and then continues. It’s not always present, but rather tends to have “jerky days”, also it seems that the problem is more apparent between 2000 – 3000 RPM and when going uphill, but it is not a rule. I thought that it could be water in the fuel, but it is water free and clean as well as the fuel filter. Otherwise engine is working excellent.

Answer
These types of complaints are common on modern "drive by wire" vehicles.  There are so many connectors, circuit boards, sensors etc that can be responsible.  Do the basic checks by looking for a vaccuum leak then checking the security and fitting of all electrical plugs and sockets, particularly the connections at the crankshaft and camshaft sensors and, the throttle body.
