UK Car Repair: vetra 2.5 v6 overheating, circulation problem, themostat

Question
i have a vectra 1997'r' with a overheating problem the fan seems to be wired direct to the ign, i assume this is wrong, cant seem to get a manual for it have just got a new themostat, can u tell me were to locate it and is it simple. with the fan running constant it does not seem to get above 80 on the temp. also can not get any hot air inside the car(has climate control) no gunk on the cap. it does not seem to lose water, well what i can see

Answer
The fan should work only when the Climate control is on OR if the engine gets too hot. It seems though that you have a circulation problem. Presumably the cooling system is full. The thermostat is usually where the radiatior top hose comes out of the engine, make sure it is cool before opening anything. Also, make sure you have a new gasket or seal for it. You can test the old thermostat by heating it in a pan on the stove, you can then see if it opens. If the thermostat is ok have the radiator cleaned out.
