UK Car Repair: corsa fan belt, vauxhall corsa, mechanical experience

Question
Hi
The fan belt on my R reg Vauxhall Corsa TDi squeaks whilst idling and screaches when accelerating until the engine warms up.

I am aware that it may need re-tensioning, changing or cleaning. As some1 with next to no mechanical experience but plenty of common sense is it a task i could take on myself?

Cheers

Answer
Yes, you can do it yourself. You cannot clean it and the tensioning is automatic, so changing is the only answer. If there is no diagram showing the routing, draw one. BUT! the noise may not be the belt, it may be from the tensioner or another rotating component, the alternator water pump etc.  To check, take the belt off and spin the pulleys by hand and listen for noises.  Tensioners are the most common items to fail.
