UK Car Repair: vauxhall vectra 1.8 16v s reg, piston damage, vauxhall vectra

Question
car had a snapped timing belt, but no piston damage or ring damage, but it bent 12 valves ive taken head off, had new valves and seats and two valve guides done.  fitted new head, set timing marks up,with crankshaft mark at half past and botht he cams at 12 oclock.  im worried that the cams might have been mixed up, which cam goes on which side.  onew cam has one mark, the other cam has one mark with inlet wrote underneath it at 12 oclock and the other mark is at quarter past with an arrow pointing to exhaust

Answer
If the head shop installed the cams I would not worry. If you installed the cams you can identify them by using their unique markings for timing alignment. Your book will describe the cam timing procedure and should also provide an illustration of the gears when properly aligned and showing which marks are on what side of the head.

Good luck,

John
