Volkswagen Repair: Volkswagen sun roof, flat screwdriver, hex drive

Question
Is there a manual way to close the sunroof on my golf gti?
Please

Answer
Without knowing what year, or what generation of Golf/GTI, it is my assumption we are dealing with a MkIV, or "A4" platform car.  The answer in this case is yes, provided the sunroof glass is still in its' track.  There is a small panel covered in "Headliner material" directly behind the sunroof control knob, and the overhead lighting array.  At one of the seams, or edges of this panel simply pry.  It may be best to use a small flat screwdriver to get it started, and then move to a nylon, or plastic prying tool for interiors, or glass installation.  At any rate get that cover off, and inside of it you'll find a tool that has the shape of a lazy, squared off "S."  Simply remove it from the cover, and insert either end into the "hex-drive" opening in the center of the sunroof geardrive mechanism.  It too is made of nylon, or plastic, and should engage the sunroof to open it or close it within about one-half turn,  ie. 180 degrees of a circle.  If it does not, your sunroof is no longer in the track correctly, and should be taken to your closest, best Volkswagen dealer so that someone with the necessary training can properly diagnose your specific problem.  I hope this helps you close your roof.
