Volkswagen Repair: Brake Bleeding, bleeder valve, wheel cylinders

Question
Hiya Don,

Just had to replace the master cylinder on my 1970 Bug.  All other components in the braking system are only 2000 miles old.  So, my brakes should be just about new.

However after installing the new master cylinder (German - FAG) I'm having problems in bleeding the brakes.  I started the bleeding process at the right rear.  My wife was in the car doing the pumping.  I got a sluggish stream of fluid from that bleeder.  At the left rear I got nothing.  I pulled the bleeder valve and had the wife try pumping again - nothing.  Went up to right front and got a good flow.  When I closed the bleeder valve at that wheel we got a little pedal.  Went to the left front and got just a dribble.

All connections are tight and dry.  The reservoir is full.  What's the problem and how do I go about solving it?

Thanks!

Mike

Answer
Mike, thank you for your question.  it sounds like the flex lines have collapsed.  Be aware the front lines may be next to collapse.  You have done the hard part already.  If it does not solve the problem, then replace all of the wheel cylinders.
Hope that helps
