Volkswagen Repair: 1996 VW GOLF 1.9 TDI, vw golf 1, engine radiator

Question
Hi Don,
thank you for your prompt reply.
I have changed the water pump, thermostat, radiator cap, flushed out engine, radiator and associated hoses, appear to have cured water loss and whining sound, thanks for that.
However i do have one concern and that is:-
there seems to be a very high pressure build up in the system.the top hose to the radiator appears to be very hard after the engine has been running long enough for the stat. to open.
the bottom hose(i would have thought)should get warm when/if the stat.opens.Any suggestions please? If i contiue to run before i can get to a VW garage would it be advisable to release the radiator cap to let off some of this pressure befe something gives bigtiime?
                  thankyou J.Atkins

Answer
John, thank you for your follow-up question.  Releasing the pressure is a good idea.  Just don't do it while the engine is hot. Also using a radiator cap that has a pressure relief is also an option but may not be available for your VW.
Hope that helps
