Volkswagen Repair: idle air sensor, vw jetta, air sensor

Question
I was on a road trip and my check engine light appeeared, I did have it checked out at an autoparts store and they told me that it was the idle air sensor, is this something that needs to be fixed while I am still on the road or can it wait till I get home and will it do any damage to my car?  Any help would be great! It is a 96 VW jetta

Answer
Jim, thank you for your question.  The Idle air sensor just causes problems with idling if it is not working.  If you are driving in stop and go traffic it is very rough.  But if you are driving open road it should be ok until you get to a stop sign or traffic light.  But in any case, you really need to get it fixed as soon as possible.
Hope that helps
