Volkswagen Repair: Starter bushing, dune buggy, air cooled vw parts

Question
I have a 1968 VW homemade dune buggy. the starter bushing went bad.       Is there any tricks to finding and replacing the part. It is a 6volt system . The bushing I removed has threads on the outside and is only about 1/2 inch long.
Thanks for you help

Answer
Wayne, Thank you for your question.  the best thing to do is make sure you have a Bentley manual for your engine.  That manual will show the best way to get at it.  Additionally, see if the starter bushing receiver has threads or not.  It will take a special drift to insert that bushing, which can be bought anywhere that sells Air cooled VW parts like Gene Berg or CIP.  If you don't have the tool then you might have to take the starter to a shop that works on Air cooled VW.
Hope that helps
