Volkswagen Repair: 2000 Jetta VR6, jetta vr6, obd ii

Question
My son has a 200 Jetta VR6. I have 2 issues. I pulled some fuses out to check them and when I was done noticed the Airbag idiot light came on. Is there a simple way to reset this? I also have a dash light out behind the dials for the a/c - heat. I can't find where the bulb goes. I removed the dial assembly but see no where for a bulb.

Answer
Randy, thank you for your question.  The airbag light came on due to a loss of power (it has power on it all of the time, crazy huh). The best way to reset to use a OBD II handheld unit to rest the code.   This can also happen when you replace a battery.  Great engineering, huh?  You can get one of these OBD II handheld scanners at any parts store. Also some auto parts stores will reset the code for free, just check with your local store if they will.  I have not seen an easier way to reset it.  I am seeing a PILE of complaints about this though  http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/vw_jetta.html   your bulb question is a little different.  Many times instead of a standard 93 or 101 bulbs they are using LEDs which are much harder for do-it-yourselfers to replace.  The best thing to do if you plan on working of your car yourself is to get a Bentley manual for your year model.  The Bentleys tend to be difficult to read so you have to reread it a few times to figure out what they are talking about but they have the most complete information on how to replace components and wiring diagrams.
Hope that helps
