Volkswagen Repair: Coolant fluid, coolant fluid, vw cabrio

I have a 1999 VW Cabrio GLS.  Do I need to use only coolant from a VW dealer or can I use just any old brand?

Amy, thank you for your question.    This is a great question!  As long as you are out of your warranty period you can use almost any coolant in the engine.  But as long as a vehicle is under warranty it needs to go back to the dealer for every thing or the warranty will be voided.  There are several brands that are good. Zero, Prestone, Peak,  or any named brands.  Avoid the store brands or the ones that just say “Anti Freeze”.

ANTIFREEZE NEEDED 7/8 GALLONS FOR A 50/50 MIX
RECOMMENDED ANTIFREEZE COOLANTS AS FOLLOWS:
