Volkswagen Repair: VW golf 86 fuel system, fuel pumps, dirty fuel

Question
My 86 VW golf is not getting gas to the injectors.  I have replaced the fuel pumps and verified that it is getting gas to the fuel distributor. I also changed the ignition modual, but no gas is getting to the injectors. I need to know what part to change out next.

Answer
Tim,

You need to crank the engine to get fuel to spray from the four injectors, only the fifth injector sprays when the key is turned on. Your fuel system needs a pulse from the coil, indicating that you've got spark, to work.

When you say you have fuel at the distributor, do you mean fuel volume or pressure? You may have a dirty fuel filter, that is allowing enough fuel through to get pressure.
If you've done this, take off one injector line at the injector, and check for rust.  You may need to replace your fuel lines and injectors, but this is not very common.

Good luck,

Paul
