Volkswagen Repair: 1997 Cabrio 2.0L-Fuel Injected, fuse box, leak water

Spark plugs, distributor cap and coil were checked out by a mechanis along with wires all seemed satisfactory. However, whenever car sits out in  the rain for various periods of time, it was hard starting, may run for an eighth to quarter of a mile then the Car's engine light comes on then it stalls and dies.  If you wait from 45mins to 60 mins sometimes it will be back to your starting location.  My mechanic is STOMPED!  HELP!! Please reply ASAP.  Need car for work.  Thanks in Advance.

Hi John,

You really need to find someone with a vag-com so that they can read the fault codes that the engine is creating.  If you can find out what those codes are chances are they will point you in the right direction.  Obviously something is getting wet that shouldn't.  On the older ones sometimes the window seal would leak water onto the fuse box causing all kinds of problems.
