Volkswagen Repair: Golf 1.8 Turbo 1999 V reg, mass air flow meter, mass air flow

Question
recently my golf has been stalling and 'jumping' while driving. Sometimes this happens all the time and then it will be ok. It can cut out while driving on the Motorway at about 80, then start again, or just die when im about to pull away. VW have said they cant find anything wrong.

when ticking over the revs occasionally drop very low and tehn go back up again.

Answer
Is your check engine light on or has it come on briefly?  If it has then there will be a code stored in the computer that will tell you exactly what is wrong.  You need to find someone with a vag-com to read the codes.  I know in Canada there are tons of problems with the coilpacks on the 99-up models.  Other problems I have seen are the MAF (mass air-flow meter)  You can diagnose both problems with a good manual and meter.

Good Luck,
