Volvo Repair: 2004 XC70, 1966 volvo p1800, irv gordon

Question
I am considering the purchase of a 2004 XC70 for my son.  The vehicle has 98000 miles.  Brakes, AC, transmission, engine seem to run smoothly in test drives.  I pushed the vehicle on take off to around 100mph to check tranny shifting...smooth and fast shifting.

My questions: 1. "Is the Volvo reputation as being built to endure high mileage really true?"  I mean, I would never by an American product with 100,000 miles.

2. "Are there common (expensive and other than normal) maintenance issues with the 2004 XC70 that I should be aware of?"

Thanks,

I know timing belt is next big maintenance item.

Answer
Randal, yes the 105k service is a Must on these.  As far as the high milage is concerned.  Yes, its really true. Ask Irv Gordon with his 1966 Volvo P1800.  Over 2.5 Million miles on his car to date.  Regular services are outlined in the book.  Main thing is oil changes.  Do not go the 7500 miles that They recommend.  Do the 3-5 thousand interval.  A/C items can be expensive but other than that, these are decent vehicles.  Roger
