Volvo Repair: 2002 S-60 2.4/auto, synthetic atf, best guess

QUESTION: Hello,
Great info on the site. Your input is Really nice. On to the question.
We have 02 S60, non T, 78k on it. Have had it for 40k. I need would like to do a full service. Car has run Well. Battery and alt is all i have had to touched Air filters. I O/Change at 7k or less.
Seems strut mount D/S is making noise? Need proper recommendation? Seems possibly the upper motor mount? Idle's a tad vibratory upon start up(nothing i think serious).
Plugs(best recommended as well Gap?) Wires? What else that area? Full tune up, Consist of what on this car?
Trans, Fluid not bad(color wise) Any brand? No filter?
Anti freeze flush, Heavy inspect hoses.
What the rule of thumb on T belt? My wife drives the acr and she babies it?
Anything else you think i should know and do? I Thank You all again for your time and Energy.



ANSWER: BB, Your book will tell you the recommended services that Volvo does.  Plugs arent done until 60k.  Gap should be 32 but most plugs are already set.  Upper strut cushion is usually the culprit for that noise.  Timing belt is done at the 105k service.  Trans is a synthetic ATF.  No filter.  Use either Amalie or Volvo.  Coolant just regular brand coolant.  Its all the same stuff.  Idle probably a throtle service.  Hope this helped.  Roger

QUESTION: Thanks for your time. I seem to remember something about mobile 1 brand Synthetic atf, Is that OK? What's a good plug, for cost and dependability? What are your thoughts on the  tranny drain and fill after the first, What is your recommendation on miles for the first(aside from the book)Drain and fill. What is a throttle service?
What is a guess for throttle service and T-Belt replacement, Just a good best guess. Lastly how can i get the upper strut cushion and what is the process to change it. Will they change that piece only if requested or try to make me replace the whole assembly? Thanks Again, BB

BB, Mobil one will be fine.  We use Bosch super plus 4.  Drain and fill on that car isnt really recommended by volvo.  If you the service like on the older Volvos it was every 20,000.  Throtle service is just as it implies.  Remove the throtle body unit and clean it with carb cleaner.  Timing belt replace should run in the 3 hundred range, throtle service about 100 at most.  You need strut compressor tool to do the upper cushion.  I will not give instructions on this because of the potential danger. They will replace the cushion if its bad.  If the strut is bad (which it probably isnt) then they should say something.  Roger
