Volvo Repair: No Brake lights, fuse panel, brake switch

Question
I have no brake lights top or bottom on my 1990 v-vo 740. I did have a top light until I went across the connection at the lower connection and blew the fuse. Now I have nothing. I hear a clicking at the Round red relay behind the fuse panel. Could I have blown that too?

Answer
Ray, that round red relay is the bulb filament monitor. It's what lets you know you have a bulb out. (Turns on the light in the dash.) I have only seen one fail in 30plus years so I doubt that's your problem. The fuse should have protected everything.
More than likely your brake switch is bad. Check all the bulbs first. Then test the switch on the upper part of the brake pedal arm. If that's ok then look at bad tailight housing grounds. Just run new ones to each housing. HTH
