Volvo Repair: volvo oil pan issue, aluminum pan, drain plug

Question
I had the oil changed today and some of the threads from my oild pan were stripped. They replaced my drain plug with another threaded plug and told me that there were lots of threads on the oil pan and I would be fine. I need to go on a 12 hour trip tomorrow and I was wondering if what they said was right are there enough threads in the oil pan to have some stripped out and still use another threaded drain plug.

Answer
Robin, you didn't tell me what model or year. Typically, if it's an oversize self tapping drain plug they put in, I would NOT trust it. Especially in a steel pan. If it's an aluminum pan, there are safe repair methods for it like a Time-Sert. Otherwise, the pan has to be replaced. I wonder who stripped those threads? It should be at their expense and not yours.
