Volvo Repair: smell of petrol, fuel pressure regulator, coolant temp

Question
hi i have a 1990 740gl 2.0, i take the oil cap of and there is a smell of petrol in the oil, plus car splutters and no power it`s like it is flooding is there a automatic choke on these, and can it be sticking?

Answer
Pete, Can be a few things.  If its fuel injection there is no automatic choke.  In some european markets, there are weber carb on them.  Which do you have?  If you have Fuel injection, then it may be a coolant temp sensor causing the overfueling or the fuel pressure regulator is bad.  Let me know which system you have.  Roger
