Volvo Repair: 2004 xc70 awd key, maintenance, service menus, switch blade

Question
the key does not function like a "switch-blade" anymore. I can get it halfway
apart but not front key part. What's the trick? Also, how important is it to do
all the maintenance recommendations other than the oil, plugs, brakes. One
more thing, how do I reset/remove the "time for service" message? Thanks in
advance for your knowledge with us.

John, For the service light, turn key to pos one, hold odometer reset button in and turn key to pos 2.  Wait for triangle to flash and release the button.  Its reset.  Ive never taken those apart and I wouldnt if I were you.  There is a chip in that thing that makes the car run.  That get damaged, you will be mad at the replacement price of that stupid thing.  Well, on the newer models, service menus are a lot different.  If you do the basics like filters, etc oil, you will be fine.  I would review your manual and just go through what needs to be done at the intervals.  Most things you can do yourself.  Roger
