Land Rover Repair: AC servo motor - warranty coverage, ac servo motor, motor warranty

Question
No, appears that it is not listed under electrical either.  What would this job cost at a dealer or in a local shop?  Should I tell them what I know from the forums or let them diagnos it?  Thanks as always!

John:  You answered the question about the issue with the AC
system.  The problem with mine falls under the category:

"If your system is adjustable on one side, but not the other –
meaning one side is stuck on hot, cold, or somewhere in
between you probably have a bad servo motor set. Land Rover
sells these servos in sets of three (left, right, and center blend).
A VERY resourceful owner could replace these items at home,
but most people will do better to find a specialist. This repair
takes most of a day to complete."

I have a warranty and it covers the following:

compressor, condenser, receiver dryer and accumulator are
covered under the A/C

Is the servo part of the above?  or arguably part of the above?

thans for your help

Hi Clint,

I did? Could it have been my neighbour... :)

IF your warranty covers specific items, like those mentioned, it did not mention AC servo motor.  This smart motor is probably not listed because it is electrical and has a higher rate of failure.

My experience with Xtended warranty coverage is "if it's not listed, its not covered".  Maybe its covered under electrical?

Best of luck,

Hi Clint,

to answer you question about telling LR service what to do...it depends on your relationship with this dealer and how familiar you are with AC repairs.  Some of these dealers want nothing to do with owners who 'know it all'.  They'd rather be left alone and work at their own pace.  Some are crafty and welcome the input, which usually adds to the repair costs!

When it comes to AC, I would find a reliable shop and let them do the work.  IF it's a problem peculiar to LR's, then you are at the mercy of the dealership (egads!).

As for dealer parts and their prices...this is a mystery even to seasoned veterans!  You could consult Atlantic British or Rover's North - they usually list parts at a lower price than most dealers.  You could also locate salvaged parts (www.car-part.com) for even lower prices.

As for the total cost for a dealer to repair your AC, this I cannot know.  I once was quoted $1900 for a new compressor installed.  IF they are troubleshooting your AC and they quoted at least 2 days...I'd wager it would be close to $1500 from what you've told me.

A local shop could probably do well with general AC problems and should be much less than the $90 per hour that most LR dealers charge.

I wish you luck with this,

regards,
