Volvo Repair: 2001 Volvo S60 T-5 Turbo Replacement, volvo s60, turbo replacement

Good day!

Could you tell me how to replace the turbo in my 2001 S60 T-5. I have had 2 put in it since buying the car. My mechanic says they overheat because there is not air flow around them. Then the seal fails. I am pretty good with cars, but I'm not sure if changing the turbo would require software. Thank you in advance for your help.

Bryan, is that mechanic smoking dope? Its a water cooled turbo charger.  Lack of oil changes kills these Turbos.  No software involved but there are a lot of steps to replace it and I dont do step by step instruction on this site.  The best manual to get for this project is a Volvo factory manual available from the dealer.  If you dont want to get that then Bentlys is a good manual.  I hope this Mechanic isnt a Volvo tech.  That is the stupidest thing I have heard yet.  Roger
