Volvo Repair: 1998 Volvo S70 Power Antenna, power antenna, wd 40

Question
I began to have problems recently with my antenna being balky, so I removed the fuse to prevent burning up the antenna motor. I got out my manual today and followed their instructions to liberally lube with WD 40. I also removed the upper nut that secures the assembly to the fendor from above and accidentally completely extracted the master and white plastic strip below. Is there a trick to re-inserting the track and which way should the teeth face? It would seem that they should face forward since that's the position of the motor.

Answer
David, radio off and wait until it comes to a full stop. Extend removed antenna, (this gives you extra time to get the mast right when it starts in. It goes pretty quick.) and face the teeth towards the motor. Push down firmly and you should be able to feel the teeth catch. Now have a helper turn the radio on and stay right there in case you need saving.(Reversing) VBG. It should pull all the way in and be flush with the top of the nut.
Oft times a 6-12" piece of the cord is broken off and still in the motor. If that's the case throw your old mast away, buy a new one, and take the motor apart and extract the piece. Reassemble and start over. HTH
